Social Media Guidelines

Contributions can be a series on a specific topic or a spontaneous post encouraging reflection. These contributions should adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Respect the specified character count for social media best practices.
  • Be submitted online using the provided template
  • Once reviewed by our committee, contributions will be published, and you will be tagged on LinkedIn for further promotion and engagement.
  • Additionally, please share any relevant posts related to your committee for maximum visibility. Ideally, this announcement should be widely accessible to your members, including journal editors, chapter chairs worldwide, and volunteers with exceptional writing skills! We appreciate your invaluable assistance and remain at your disposal.

Social media best practices

LinkedIn 

  • Character count: 140-250 for the body of the content
  • Recommended content: Share content that will benefit your followers with their professional goals. Engagement increases when a post is tied to an image (images receive almost twice as many comments as text-only posts). YouTube videos that play automatically in the newsfeed generate a 75 percent higher share rate.

Facebook

  • Character count: 140-250 for the body of the content
  • Recommended content: Your Facebook content should provide value to followers, that value may come in the form of telling them how to do something or providing information they need. Statistics show that visual content is 40 times more likely to be shared on social media than other types of content. That means photos, videos, infographics, and memes.

Twitter

  • Character count: recommended 71-100, limit is 280
  • Recommended content: Share content that will benefit your followers by providing them with information, educating them, advancing ideas, or inspiring conversations. This will get your audience to retweet the content.

Key Tips: 

  • Less is more: Keep graphics as readable as possible
  • ALWAYS include a link back to a site that's relevant to the post
  • GIF Video Clips: increases the opportunity for engagement
  • For speakers or award recipients, tag the person's account within the platform if they are following to encourage reposting on their platforms
  • Include hashtags to increase reach and engagement - be consistent in using the same hashtags for activities
