At IEEE APSCON 2024, WiSe organized a dedicated panel titled “Advancements in Semiconductor Technology-Based Transducer and Processing Platforms,” bringing together experts from academia, industry, and research leadership to discuss emerging sensing technologies and their impact across sectors such as space, biomedical engineering, IoT, and defense . The panel provided a multidisciplinary perspective on how advances in semiconductor-based sensing and data processing are enabling large-scale analytics and transforming modern applications.
WiSe also co-sponsored Big Idea Pitch (BIP) Competition with YP. It served as a platform to promote innovation and entrepreneurship by enabling students, researchers, and young professionals to pitch technology-driven business ideas derived from their research. The competition combined short pitch presentations with mentoring and networking opportunities, aiming to identify promising startups, connect participants with experts and investors, and foster real-world impact through sensor-based innovations.

WiSe organized the Panel “Transformative Leadership”, featuring four invited speakers who shared insights on the topic. WiSe also hosted a video competition titled “Artificial Intelligence with Biosensors and Biosensing – Opportunity and Implications”. Additionally, WiSe awarded two travel grants to students presenting their work at the conference, and supported the travel of two plenary speakers.
WiSe supported a range of impactful initiatives aimed at fostering inclusion, professional development, and participation at the conference. This included co-organizing the “WiSe, YP, CEC, and D&I joint activity,” with full sponsorship provided to the WiSe Chapter Chair representative, Pedro Bertemes. WiSe also sponsored six travel grants for students presenting their work, promoting broader engagement across genders and career stages. In addition, WiSe co-organized the WiSe-YP Big Idea Pitch Competition, encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship.
A key new initiative was the Family Care Grant for IEEE SENSORS 2024, which supports attendees with caregiving responsibilities by covering family care costs up to $1,500 USD. Open to IEEE members of any grade or gender based on need, this program addressed childcare, elder care, and other dependent care needs, with applicants confirming no overlapping support. WiSe funded three such applications and plans to expand and reinforce this initiative in 2025, extending it across all Sensors Council conferences.
